World’s Longest Letter
Back to Records
It is with great pride that the World Records Authority officially presents the World Record for the World’s Longest Letter, achieved by the dedicated school children of Kendal, Cumbria, UK.
Hundreds of pupils from eight schools — including Queen Katherine School, Vicarage Park Primary, and Grayrigg Primary — came together with one voice to express their love for the Lake District in a continuous roll of heartfelt handwritten messages.
A historic collaboration between James Cropper Paper and the Lake District National Park made this possible, resulting in a monumental handwritten letter measuring 290 metres in length — stretching as high as the famous Castle Crag fell.
The children presented this world-changing letter to the Lake District’s World Heritage bid team at Brockhole, supporting their successful quest for UNESCO World Heritage status. The World Records Authority is proud to certify this extraordinary act of community creativity and passion.
