The Story of Mystery Domes
Beneath our dome, the universe unfolds — how a Kerala team turned astronomy education into an experience children queue up for.
Mystery Domes was founded in Kerala, India, with a simple but ambitious idea: instead of waiting for children to travel to a distant planetarium, bring the cosmos directly to them. Its portable, inflatable digital planetarium can be set up in a school ground, an auditorium or a community hall — and within minutes, an ordinary room becomes a doorway to the stars.
On 3 July 2026, the World Records Authority officially recognised Mystery Domes for operating the Largest Portable Planetarium in Asia. Measuring 33 feet (10 metres) in diameter and 15 feet (4.57 metres) in height, the dome creates a fully immersive 360° environment capable of seating up to 150 participants in a single session — a scale that places it at the very top of portable planetariums across the Asian region.
Inside the dome, students are surrounded by galaxies, black holes, constellations and real moon-mission footage, with rich, curriculum-aligned content developed alongside institutions such as ISRO, NASA and leading science centres. What begins as a science lesson becomes an experience — one that sparks curiosity long after the dome deflates.
From schools across Kerala and India to programmes in the Middle East, Mystery Domes has made immersive astronomy and STEM education accessible to tens of thousands of young minds. This world record recognises not only the sheer size of the dome, but the scale of its mission: giving every child a chance to look up and understand the universe they live in.
