Longest Bicycle — Ivan Schalk, Joost Sweep & Team (Netherlands)
World Records Authority officially recognises an extraordinary team achievement from the Netherlands — Ivan Schalk, Joost Sweep, Jimmy Vermeeren, Sander Visser, Bas Zuidema, Steffie van de Riet, Daan Husson, Toine Kleemans, Jasper Korving, and Op de Beek have navigated and certified a formidable 55.16-metre (180ft 11in) structure to official certification — the Longest Bicycle in the world, achieved in Prinsenbeek, Netherlands in 2024.
Inspired by a lifetime of ambition, this dedicated team showcased extraordinary engineering and teamwork to bring this record to life. Building a rideable bicycle of over 55 metres requires solving complex structural challenges — the frame must be rigid enough to maintain shape, yet flexible enough to allow steering and forward propulsion along a straight path.
The Netherlands, famously the most bicycle-loving nation on earth, provided the perfect cultural backdrop for this record. From Amsterdam’s canals to the flat polders of Prinsenbeek, cycling is woven into the Dutch national identity — and this team has taken that love of cycling to its most spectacular possible extreme.
World Records Authority congratulates the entire team on this awe-inspiring collaborative achievement, recognising it as a landmark in the history of creative engineering and a proud entry in the official WRA global record archives.
