RAF fighter pilot Andy Green (UK) holds the Fastest Land Speed Record, driving the jet-powered Thrust SSC to an incredible 763.035 mph (Mach 1.020) across the Black Rock Desert, Nevada, USA on 15 October 1997. Green remains the only person in history to break the sound barrier on land — the purest and most elemental form of motorsport, and the simplest thing to understand: driving a car faster than anyone in history.
