On 16 September 2018, the historic Plaza de Armas in Arequipa, Peru — one of Latin America’s most magnificent colonial squares — was transformed into the world’s largest stage for traditional Peruvian folk dance. Under the organisation of the Municipalidad Provincial de Arequipa, an astonishing 2,352 pairs — 4,704 total dancers — gathered to perform the Pampeña Arequipeña, the beloved traditional folk dance of the Arequipa region, setting a new world record for the largest Peruvian folk dance ever performed.
