Largest Cup Percussion Ensemble
On the vibrant streets of Tirana, Albania, something extraordinary unfolded in 2016. What began as a vision to celebrate youth talent, creativity, and collective spirit transformed into a world-defining moment — the Largest Cup Percussion Ensemble ever assembled, officially certified by the World Records Authority.
A staggering 2,016 participants came together, each armed with nothing more than a simple cup, ready to create music through rhythm, coordination, and passion. The result was a breathtaking display of synchronization and unity — thousands of young hands moving in perfect harmony, generating a percussive soundscape that reverberated through the streets of the Albanian capital and into the record books.
Cup percussion — the art of creating music using cups as instruments — demands precision, timing, and a deep sense of collective awareness. Each participant must maintain perfect tempo with thousands of others, making this record not just a test of individual talent, but of collaborative discipline at a massive scale. WRA officials were present on-site to adjudicate the attempt and ensure full compliance with international standards.
The World Records Authority is proud to formally recognize the tremendous achievement of the Albania Youngsters. Their dedication and collaborative spirit turned a shared goal into a monumental achievement. This attempt stands as a celebration of youth, culture, and the power of music to unite thousands under one beat.
Albania’s young performers demonstrated that world records are not reserved for lone champions — they can be claimed by communities, by generations, by an entire nation’s spirit channelled through rhythm and joy.
