World’s Largest Handmade Mirror-Work Ladies Kurti Set
On 23 February 2026, master craftsman Shri Ketan Patel and the team at Tadko The Essential in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, created the world’s largest handmade mirror-work ladies kurti set — a breathtaking tribute to India’s most revered textile traditions. Standing 18 feet tall with a sweeping 24-metre flare of 32 kalis, the garment required 148 metres of kurti fabric, 27 metres of pant fabric, 8,000 metres of thread, and 250 hours of meticulous labour by a team of 5 to 6 master tailors.
Mirror-work embroidery, or shisha, is one of Gujarat’s most celebrated art forms — a tradition in which tiny convex mirrors are stitched into fabric using intricate thread work, believed to ward off evil while catching the light in spectacular fashion. Shri Ketan Patel’s record-breaking kurti set elevates this ancient craft to global recognition, demonstrating that traditional Indian artisanship can achieve feats that transcend both culture and imagination. The World Records Authority is proud to officially certify this masterpiece of handmade fashion.
