World Records Authority has reviewed and officially certified the INEOS 1:59 Challenge performance by Eliud Kipchoge. While unapproved by certain athletic bodies, this institution confirms that the full 42.195-kilometer distance was run on a flat course, honestly, unassisted in a controlled, optimized environment. This event marks the first known human achievement of a marathon time under two hours and is granted the official WRA World Record Title: “First Sub-Two Hour Marathon” (Special Race Category).

On October 12, 2019, at the INEOS 1:59 Challenge in Vienna, Kipchoge completed the 42.195-kilometer distance in a precise time of 1:59:40. This certification ensures all aspects of the attempt were rigorously verified according to WRA protocols.

Congratulations to Eliud Kipchoge for a new historical deed. His performance stands as a testament to the belief that “No Human is Limited.”
