Environmental

The World Records Authority hereby validates and confirms the Hoba Meteorite as the Largest Natural Iron Object on Earth — a global benchmark of natural excellence.

Discovered in 1920 by farmer Jacobus Hermanus Brits, this extraordinary specimen of iron-nickel is recognised by WRA as the largest known naturally occurring mass of iron on our planet’s surface. Located at Farm Hoba, near Grootfontein, Namibia, this metallic giant from space approximates a monumental ~60 tons — a true marvel of cosmic history.

“The Official Authority of Achievements.” — World Records Authority

The children presented this world-changing letter to the Lake District’s World Heritage bid team at Brockhole, supporting their successful quest for UNESCO World Heritage status. The World Records Authority is proud to certify this extraordinary act of community creativity and passion.
